Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA Hosts District Governor Bukola Bakare's First Official Visit of the 2026–2027 Rotary Year
The Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA proudly welcomed Rotary International District 9111 District Governor, Rotarian Bukola Olabisi Bakare, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, for her first official club visit of the 2026–2027 Rotary year. As the District Governor’s home club, Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA was honored to host this historic occasion, which featured impactful community service, fellowship, recognition, and celebration.
Supporting Mothers and Newborns at LASUTH
In alignment with Rotary’s commitment to Maternal and Child Health and the July Rotary focus area, the visit commenced with a humanitarian outreach at Ayinke House, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
During the outreach, members of the club and the District Governor presented essential maternal and newborn care supplies to support mothers and babies receiving care at the facility. The donated items included sanitary pads, baby diapers, baby wipes, cotton wool, and other necessities aimed at improving the well-being of vulnerable mothers and newborns.
Speaking during the presentation, District Governor Bukola Bakare commended the Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA for beginning the Rotary year with a project that directly impacts lives and supports one of Rotary’s key areas of focus.
She also encouraged members of the public to explore Rotary membership and become part of a global network dedicated to community service and humanitarian impact.
According to the District Governor, Rotary’s presence and contributions within healthcare facilities such as LASUTH demonstrate the organization’s enduring commitment to improving lives and strengthening communities.
The donations were received on behalf of Ayinke House by the Head Social Worker, Mrs. Shitu Abiola, who expressed appreciation to the club and assured members that the items would be distributed to patients who need them most.
Fellowship, Recognition, and Strategic Growth
Following the outreach, the District Governor and her entourage were hosted to a warm fellowship session before proceeding to the club’s board meeting.
A memorable highlight of the fellowship was the recognition of Rotarian Apanisile Tolulope Raymond, who was decorated as a Paul Harris Fellow in appreciation of his support and contributions to The Rotary Foundation. The recognition reflects Rotary’s culture of honoring individuals who contribute significantly to advancing humanitarian service around the world.
Another major milestone during the visit was the official launch of the Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA website, designed to serve as a dynamic platform for sharing the club’s activities, projects, achievements, and community impact.
Speaking on the importance of storytelling within Rotary, District Governor Bukola Bakare emphasized the need for Rotary clubs to effectively communicate their impact and showcase the positive change being created through service projects.

In her remarks, the President of the Rotary Club of Ikeja GRA, Rotarian Abimbola Isifiade, expressed gratitude to the District Governor and members of her entourage for their support, mentorship, and inspiring leadership.
She noted that the visit reinforced the club’s commitment to the Rotary International theme for the year, “Creating Lasting Impact,” and strengthened members’ resolve to continue implementing projects that improve lives and address critical community needs.
As the first official visit of the District Governor for the new Rotary year, the event set a positive and inspiring tone for the months ahead.
